Event details checked: 20 October 2026.

A print fair is a chance to see work close up, ask how it was made and buy directly from artists, studios or specialist galleries. For printmakers, it can also be a place to meet peers, discover new approaches and find opportunities to show work.

This regional guide brings together 28 UK print fairs, festivals and related events across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Alongside specialist print fairs, it includes selling exhibitions, illustration fairs and artists’ book markets, with the format explained for each. There are official event or venue links and social accounts throughout, including clearly labelled organiser accounts where appropriate.

These events matter to us at Hickman Design. We have sponsored Derby Print Open and PrintEast, and attended PrintEast with a table. At Hull Print Fair, we are supporting Wyke Art Foundation’s college table with printmaking registration pins and tabs. You will find more about each below.

The calendar highlights dates still ahead at the time of checking. Other entries record a past edition so you can discover the event and follow its organiser for future announcements. Cardiff’s PRINTED Festival and Belfast’s Visual Arts Print Fair are marked as older events to watch. Confirm the latest date, venue, tickets and access information with the organiser before travelling.

How to choose a print fair to visit

Start with the kind of work you want to see. An artist-led print fair is often a good place to discuss carving, inking and printing with the person who made the image. A gallery or dealer fair can offer a wider historical range and specialist knowledge about collecting. Book markets and illustration festivals are especially relevant if your interests include zines, risograph, letterpress or self-publishing.

Look through the current exhibitor list before booking travel. A familiar event name does not guarantee the same venue or format every year, and an old application page may stay online after a fair has finished. Use the event’s latest announcement to check opening hours, admission, step-free access and any workshops that need separate booking.

Buying original prints at a fair

Ask the maker or exhibitor about the process, paper and edition. Useful questions include whether the image is printed from a carved block, plate or screen; whether the print is part of a numbered edition; and whether the price includes a mount or frame. A digital reproduction and a hand-printed edition can both be enjoyable purchases, but understanding how each was produced helps you choose.

Check the size of the sheet as well as the image, particularly if you have a frame or wall space in mind. Ask how the work will be packed for the journey home, and keep the artist’s details with your purchase. If you want to understand the techniques before your visit, explore our printmaking guides.

How to find opportunities to exhibit

Follow the organiser’s website and social account well before the event. Application windows can close months ahead, and a visitor listing may remain live after exhibitors have already been selected. Check whether the opportunity is an open application, a juried exhibition, an invitation or a table booking, then choose events that suit your work and budget.

  • Read the selection criteria. Some fairs focus on original printmaking; others welcome illustration, reproductions, books or a wider range of products.
  • Check the display arrangements. Find out what space, tables, hanging facilities or furniture are included, and whether you need to provide your own.
  • Work out the full cost. Consider the stand fee, any sales commission, travel, accommodation, packaging and the time needed to prepare and attend.
  • Prepare a clear application. Use accurate photographs, a concise description of your processes and the sizes and prices requested by the organiser.
  • Confirm practical requirements. Ask about setup, collection, payment arrangements and any conditions that apply to your stand or demonstration.

For student groups and collectives, agree who will staff the table, record sales and look after each artist’s work. A shared display benefits from clear labels and consistent information, even when the work comes from several makers. If you are working out prices, our art pricing calculator can help you think through costs and time before deciding your selling price.

What to take when selling your prints

Plan a display that makes the work easy to browse without crowding the table. Bring readable prices, information about your techniques and editions, suitable packaging, a way to take payment and a simple record of the work you have brought. Keep spare stock accessible, and have your website or social details available for visitors who want to follow your work after the fair.

Can beginners visit a print fair?

Yes. You do not need to be an established artist or collector to enjoy looking at prints and talking to exhibitors. Events with demonstrations or introductory workshops can be particularly helpful when you are exploring a technique for the first time. Check any age restrictions or booking requirements for practical sessions.

Are all the events in this guide annual?

No. Some have established annual or biennial formats, while others are tied to an exhibition or a particular programme. A past edition is included as a way to discover the organiser, rather than a promise that the event will return. The dates above identify the edition checked.

Where should I look for the latest dates and applications?

Start with the official event or venue link under each entry, then check the linked social account for announcements. Where the social link belongs to a venue, organiser or participating college, it is labelled accordingly. Follow current information rather than assuming that an archived event page has been updated for the next edition.
