What do I need to start stamp making?
- A rubber or other stamp-carving block sized for the design.
- Suitable carving tools, a pencil and a design-transfer method.
- An ink pad or block-printing ink matched to the material you will print on.
- Scrap paper for proofs and the paper, cards or fabric for the finished project.
A starter kit can cover several of these items, but check the contents before adding separate tools or pads. Work with small, simple shapes first and carve away from your supporting hand.
Choosing blocks and holders
Small blocks suit motifs, labels and repeat patterns; larger sheets give room for a bigger design or several stamps. The Rabby 30mm holder is intended for matching 30 × 30mm Rabby blocks, rather than every block in the range. Check dimensions before combining a holder and block.
Choosing ink for paper or fabric
Paper-only pads, including the Rabby paper stamp-pad sets, are intended for paper projects. For textiles, choose an explicitly fabric-compatible ink: VersaCraft pads in this range are labelled for paper and fabric and require heat setting on fabric. Follow the product instructions for the material, setting and washing method, and make a test print first.
For larger blocks inked with a roller, choose a suitable relief or fabric block-printing ink; a small stamp pad may not cover the design conveniently. Explore Japanese stamp-making equipment for related supplies, or read our fabric-printing guide for textile projects.
