The Arms Race was a digital design that was based on information from the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute databases. The information that I pulled from the databases helped to create this digital design. After researching I chose to create a design based on the worlds top 20 arms exporters during 2010 – 2014.
The idea of the design was to create a visual for the term ‘arms race‘, which is generally used when referring to competing military technology of various nations. The main purpose and style was to be an infographic that laid out the information in an engaging way for the general public to understand and see the information. Most people would not find it interesting reading over documents and articles about weapon & arms exports.
The final digital design incorporated arms literally racing towards a finish line. Each nations flag has been placed onto the cuff of the the arm. This was to help people understand which countries are the leading the race in exporting weapons. The positions of each arm match up to each nations position of arms exports.
Overall the design captured my initial concept well, however I still need to finish putting the information into each text box. The final aim is get a few copies printed and eventually sold to help raise awareness. Potentially as well to update year on year.
