Custom Laser Engraving Artwork Guide
Please read this guide before supplying your artwork and see the example image in the product gallery for the required artwork style.
Once your order with custom artwork is placed, our team will contact you to request the artwork file for engraving.
Please supply your artwork as a simple black and white design.
- Black = engraved
- White = not engraved
- No colours
- No gradients
- No shadows
- No grey tones
- Avoid very fine detail
File types
Vector artwork is preferred: SVG, AI, EPS or vector PDF.
We can also accept clear PNG or JPG files and image trace them where suitable.
If your artwork needs significant editing, redrawing, background removal or other preparation before engraving, an additional artwork charge may apply.
Engraving area
The maximum engraving area is approximately 120 × 140mm.
By default, your artwork will be centred on the top of the box and scaled to the largest suitable size within this area.
Order notes
When placing your order, please use the Order Notes box to tell us:
- What you would like engraved
- Where you would like it positioned
- Any sizing or layout requirements
Example:
“Please engrave the supplied Studio Logo centred on the lid at the largest suitable size.”
If no positioning instructions are provided, we will centre the artwork within the 120 × 140mm engraving area.
Hickman Design Lino Cutting Tool Box – Designed for Pfeil Tools
Give your lino cutting tools a proper place to live with our handmade wooden Lino Cutting Tool Box, designed, laser cut and assembled in our studio by Hickman Design.
Each box is made from premium 3mm MEDITE MDF, chosen for its consistent finish and suitability for precision laser cutting.
This version has been developed specifically for Pfeil lino and woodcarving tools, with a purpose-designed internal tray that keeps your tools neatly organised, supported and securely positioned inside the drawer.
Rather than keeping valuable carving tools loose in a drawer, bag or around the studio, the box gives them a dedicated place to store, organise and protect your Pfeil tools between printing sessions.
Designed around Pfeil tools
The removable internal tool tray measures approximately 150 × 130 × 30mm and has been designed around the shape and size of Pfeil carving tools.
Raised tool supports separate the individual tools while keeping the handles and blades easy to access, allowing tools to be quickly picked up and returned to their place while working.
The surrounding drawer measures approximately 156.2 × 136.2mm externally, creating a compact storage solution suitable for a printmaking bench, desk, teaching space or studio shelf.
Make it your own
The top of the box can be customised with your name, studio name, business logo or artwork, laser engraved directly onto the lid.
Personalisation is ideal for individual artists, but it is also particularly useful for printmaking studios, tutors and workshop organisers. If you regularly run lino printing or relief printmaking workshops, branded tool boxes can help keep equipment organised while giving your teaching setup a professional and consistent appearance.

Handmade in our studio
Each box is made in-house at the Hickman Design studio, from laser cutting the premium 3mm MEDITE MDF components through to assembly and finishing.
The precision-cut construction and fitted internal tray are designed specifically around the tools they are intended to store.
