A versatile sheet for illustrated prints and small editions
The Speedball 8.5 × 11 inch Printmaking Paper Pad contains 20 sheets of white, acid-free 245gsm paper. Use this format for a portrait linocut, a botanical composition or a sequence of related relief prints. Its rectangular proportions give you room to balance an image with a clean surrounding border.
Plan your image and margins
Make a 215.9 × 279.4 mm paper template and check the full outline of your block or plate against it. Plan a title or signature area before printing. For several colours, mark a consistent paper position in your registration setup rather than judging alignment by eye. These are inch-based dimensions: use the measured sheet size when choosing a mount, folder or printing setup.
A smooth, absorbent printing surface
Made from high alpha-cellulose, the paper has a smooth surface and good absorbency for layered ink applications. It offers a substantial sheet for relief prints and other printmaking processes. Match the paper preparation to your ink and technique: follow the ink maker’s guidance when deciding whether to print dry or damp, then make a proof before committing to an edition.
Proof, compare and build a print run
Use the twenty sheets for a small edition, a set of colour trials or several different projects. Keep a record of your ink mixture and printing pressure alongside the first successful proof so you can repeat the result. When adding another colour, let the earlier layer reach the stage recommended by your ink manufacturer before continuing. Keep your hands and work area clean to protect the unprinted margins.
