Japanese Vinyl 3 mm Double-Sided Relief Printing Block

This Japanese vinyl block offers a smooth alternative to traditional linoleum for relief printmaking. It has a green face, a blue reverse and a black inner core. The contrasting core helps you see the areas you have cut away as the design develops.

Two carving surfaces in one block

Both coloured faces can be carved, so one block can hold two separate designs or a design and a test. The total block thickness is 3 mm.

Choose a block large enough for your design and any uncarved handling area you want around it. For multicolour work, plan how you will position each block and sheet before carving.

Carving and printing

The smooth surface suits fine lines, textures and larger cleared areas. Use sharp relief-carving tools and controlled shallow cuts, keeping the design areas you want to print raised above the cut surface. The block is compatible with water-based and oil-based relief inks; follow the ink manufacturer’s clean-up directions.
