The Economy Shina Japanese Plywood (225×300mm, 4mm thick) is one of the most widely used surfaces in Japan for Mokuhanga, the traditional water-based woodblock printing method. Combining a shina veneer with a lauan wood core, it offers a lightweight, affordable and highly responsive material for printmakers of all levels.
Sustainable and fine-grained
Sourced from Tilia Japonica, a sustainable timber grown in colder regions of Japan, shina is valued for its fine, almost imperceptible grain. This allows artists to carve with precision, free from distracting textures, making it especially suited for work that requires crisp edges, smooth lines, and detailed imagery.
