Choose the 900 × 1000 mm Japanese vinyl sheet when you need a substantial area for relief-printing work. This is the largest size in the existing range, supplied as one double-sided sheet with a 3 mm thickness. Its stated dimensions help you plan a larger design or consider the arrangement of several projects before committing to how you use the material.

A large sheet for planning substantial projects

Draw a scaled plan and mark the dimensions of your intended image before transferring anything to the sheet. Consider the paper size, available worktable space and the printing equipment you will use. A large format makes it especially useful to settle the main composition and leave clear handling space around the design. If you are planning several smaller designs, lay out their outlines on paper first to judge spacing. Reverse lettering where necessary so it reads correctly in the printed impression.

Two carving faces

The sheet has green and blue outer faces with a black core. Either face can be used for carving, and the contrasting core helps you see the areas you have removed. Plan the reverse face before using both sides and protect the surface underneath while you work.

Carve, ink and check a proof

Use suitable carving tools and support the sheet on a stable work surface. Work in controlled stages, then make a test impression with your chosen relief-printing ink and paper. Check the proof before removing more material. Assess the first proofs in smaller sections and as a complete image. Recording the changes you want to make can help you return to the work methodically between sessions without losing track of the larger composition.
