I found Hickman Designs via another printmaker online as they mentioned a new sharpening tool set they had discovered. I was fed up with paying to have my tools sharpened and as she mentioned she had purchased the EZ Care set from Hickman who were new to me I clicked on their website. Whilst ordering the sharpening set I found an amazing pair of Skull Scissors which I had to have along with some Cranfield safe wash printing ink. Hickson delivered free and quickly and I was really pleased with how the sharpening set worked especially as it will save me money. Will definitely use Hickman Designs again.

A4 newsprint for working through ideas
Keep this Seawhite newsprint pad beside your drawing or printmaking workspace for quick studies, composition notes and trial layouts. It contains 100 sheets of 49 gsm recycled newsprint in the familiar A4 format, giving you a defined area for exploring an idea before choosing a finished surface.
A compact format for repeated practice
A4 measures 210 × 297 mm. Try turning the sheet between portrait and landscape orientations to see which suits your subject. The pad has a printed cover and a rigid 2 mm backing board, with glue and tape binding along the short edge. Seawhite makes the pad in the UK and identifies it as a vegan product.
Projects to try
- Short drawing sessions: sketch the same object several times, changing the viewpoint or the time allowed for each study.
- Composition planning: compare several arrangements of an image and its surrounding space before committing the design to a block.
- Studio notes: place a sketch alongside written observations about shapes, lettering or the marks you want to develop.
Use each trial to guide the next
Start with pencil or another familiar dry drawing medium and try a few marks on a spare sheet. Handle the lightweight paper gently when removing sheets or revisiting a drawing. Keep useful studies together and date them so you can compare how a design develops across several sessions.
If you experiment with a relief proof, test your chosen ink and pressure first. Use the result to review the image, then make a separate proof on your intended edition paper: changing paper can change the impression. Let any ink dry before stacking your trials.
