A3 newsprint for larger studies and layouts
The Seawhite A3 Newsprint Pad gives you a larger working area for developing drawings and print ideas. Each pad contains 100 sheets of 49 gsm recycled newsprint. Use the space to compare shapes, explore a composition or record several stages of a design before moving to your chosen finished paper.
Room to see the whole arrangement
A3 measures 297 × 420 mm, providing twice the nominal sheet area of A4. Try a broad landscape layout, a full-page study or a group of smaller sketches on one sheet. The pad is glued and tape-bound along the short edge, with a printed cover and rigid 2 mm backing board. It is made in the UK and described by Seawhite as vegan.
Ways to use the larger sheet
- Observational drawing: sketch a still-life arrangement with room to compare the main forms and the spaces between them.
- Print planning: test the scale of a motif and its border before transferring a design onto a carving block.
- Sequence studies: place several quick drawings together to compare viewpoints, movement or different arrangements of a subject.
Build a useful record of experiments
Begin with a few pencil marks to judge how your preferred drawing pressure behaves on the lightweight paper. Work through small changes rather than trying to resolve every part of the image at once. Date the studies you want to keep and add brief notes about what to develop next.
For an experimental relief proof, test the ink and printing pressure first. A newsprint trial can help you review the design, but make another proof on the intended edition paper before deciding on the final printing approach. Allow ink to dry before stacking sheets, and support the paper when removing it from the pad.
