Description
The Michihamono Flat (Aisuki) 1.5mm Japanese Woodblock Print Chisel is a finely crafted precision tool designed for detailed surface carving in woodblock printing, mokuhanga, and linocut. Made in Japan using high-quality high steel, the blade is capable of taking an exceptionally sharp edge, allowing for controlled, accurate cuts even in dense or layered materials such as plywood.
The flat Aisuki profile features a gently rounded cutting edge, making it particularly suitable for smoothing backgrounds, cleaning flat areas, and refining transitions between carved and uncarved surfaces. Once the blade has been sharpened down and the cutting edge becomes shorter, the tool can be disassembled and the blade reset, extending the usable life of the chisel.
The slim 1.5mm width makes this tool ideal for delicate adjustments and narrow surface corrections, though care should be taken when working with small sizes, as thinner blades can be more susceptible to damage if excessive force is applied.
Fitted with a Sakura wood handle, the chisel measures approximately 110mm at the handle with a total length of 130mm, offering excellent balance and comfort during prolonged carving sessions. A protective cutting edge cap is included to help preserve the blade and improve safety when not in use.
