Choose the 100 × 150 mm Japanese vinyl block for a small relief-printing project, a trial design or a compact illustration. This size gives you a defined working area to plan before carving, making it a practical option when you want to explore a motif without starting with a larger sheet. It is supplied as one block with a 3 mm thickness.

A compact block for a focused design

Sketch your image inside a 100 × 150 mm rectangle and leave some space around the design for handling and positioning the paper. A leaf, simple landscape or geometric motif gives you a useful starting point. Think about which areas will remain raised and receive ink, and which spaces you will remove. If the design contains letters, check that they are reversed on the block so they read correctly in the printed impression.

Two carving faces

The block has green and blue outer faces with a black core. Either face can be used for carving, and the contrasting core helps you see the areas you have removed. Plan the reverse face before using both sides and protect the surface underneath while you work.

Carve, ink and check a proof

Use suitable carving tools and support the block on a stable work surface. Work in controlled stages, then make a test impression with your chosen relief-printing ink and paper. Check the proof before removing more material. Keep an early proof beside the block while refining the carving. It gives you a direct comparison between your planned shape and the marks that actually print, especially around a small design.
