Black acrylic ink for screen printing

Choose Speedball Black Acrylic Screen Printing Ink in the 8 fl oz jar for graphic prints, illustrated cards and paper-based stencil projects. The smaller format is a useful choice when you are developing an image, working on a short run or adding black to a collection of acrylic screen inks. This listing supplies one jar of the standard Black colour.

Plan a single-colour print

Use black to explore the relationship between the printed image and the spaces left unprinted. A simple motif, lettering design or repeated shape can make a useful first screen. Check the arrangement on paper before preparing the stencil, then make a trial impression on the material you intend to use. Look at both the fine details and the larger printed areas before deciding whether to adjust the stencil or printing technique.

Paper, wood and cardboard

This water-based ink is formulated for use with a screen and squeegee. Speedball lists paper, wood and cardboard as suitable surfaces. It is not intended for washfast fabric printing. For changes in consistency, use an appropriate screen-printing modifier rather than adding water.

For help choosing between paper and textile inks, read our screen printing inks and mediums guide.

Colour and studio care

Speedball rates Black as Excellent for lightfastness, and the Acrylic Screen Printing Ink range is listed with ACMI AP certification. Clean ink from the screen and tools with soap and water before it dries, and follow the directions supplied with the ink.

Choose the container size

Select the 8 fl oz jar when a smaller container suits the project or your available storage. The 32 fl oz Black option offers a larger quantity of the same standard colour for projects where you regularly return to black. Keep a test impression with your project notes to help you repeat the setup later.
