The 150 × 200 mm Japanese vinyl block provides room for a small relief-printing composition, with a little more space to arrange your image than the smallest block in the range. Choose it for an illustrated motif, a compact landscape or a series of related shapes. This listing supplies one double-sided vinyl block, 3 mm thick, in the specified size.

Draw the block outline on paper first and try arranging the subject vertically and horizontally. Changing the orientation can help you find a layout that suits a plant, building or repeating pattern. Leave space for the paper border you want around the finished impression and think about the areas of solid colour alongside the finer marks. Settle the main shapes before transferring the drawing, remembering to reverse any lettering that must read correctly in the print.

The block has green and blue outer faces with a black core. Either face can be used for carving, and the contrasting core helps you see the areas you have removed. Plan the reverse face before using both sides and protect the surface underneath while you work.

Use suitable carving tools and support the block on a stable work surface. Work in controlled stages, then make a test impression with your chosen relief-printing ink and paper. Check the proof before removing more material. Make notes beside your first proof about the areas you want to refine. Returning to those observations between carving sessions helps you keep the composition consistent while making small adjustments to the design.
