Paper for your next print

Jackson's – Hereford Lightweight Printmaking Paper – 145gsm – A5.

The paper is part of the finished image, affecting how a printed mark appears and how the work feels in the hand. Use this printmaking paper to explore your design, ink and printing method together. Begin with a proof rather than a full edition, checking whether fine lines, solid areas and the edges of the image transfer as intended. Keep that proof as a reference when making further adjustments.

Working with this product

Plan the image position before cutting or trimming the sheet. Allow room for handling, registration and any border you want around the finished print. When printing by hand, support the work on a clean, level surface and apply pressure evenly. Lift the paper carefully to avoid moving it against the inked block. If you change the ink, pressure or paper preparation, alter one thing at a time so you can identify what improved the result.

Choosing and using this format

Think about the finished print size as well as the block itself. A generous border gives you somewhere to handle the paper and can help with later mounting. Before cutting a large sheet into smaller pieces, make a simple cutting plan so each piece has enough room for the image. Keep useful offcuts for ink tests or small trial impressions.
